This guide explains installing UTM emulation software to use Power BI. It is intended for advanced users.
If you are using a Mac workstation, you must install Windows emulation software to use Power BI. For more information on emulation software comparisons, refer to Selecting Emulation Software for Power BI.
To install the UTM emulation software:
- In the Mac Menu Bar, select the Apple icon (
) > About This Mac and verify your Chip and Memory.
- In the Apple Store, download the CrystalFetch ISO app.

- Open the app and select Windows 11, your preferred language, and the architecture:
- If your Mac workstation chip is M1, M2, M3, or M4, select Apple Silicon.
- If your Mac workstation chip is not M1, M2, M3, or M4, select Intel x64.

- Select Download.
- Download UTM, open the downloaded file, and drag it to the Applications folder.

- Once the download completes, run the UTM app and select Open when prompted.

- In the UTM app, select Create a New Virtual Machine > Virtualize > Windows.

- Select Browse, then select the CrystalFetch ISO folder you previously downloaded.

- Select the amount of RAM memory you want to allocate to UTM, then select Continue.
It is recommended to allocate about 70% of your Mac workstation RAM memory.
- Select Continue > Continue > Save.

- Select the Play icon (
), then press the Return key on your keyboard several times to start the installation process.
- Select a language and keyboard configuration.
- Select I don't have a product key.
- Select Windows Home > Next > Accept the Terms > Continue.
The installation process begins. Do not press any keys on your keyboard during this process. - When the installation finishes, select your country and keyboard layout.

- When the setup process is complete, log in using the password you previously created.
- Then select Next > I Agree > Reboot now > Finish.
UTM will restart, but not your Mac workstation.
- Once the UTM Windows is ready, open the Microsoft Store and download Power BI.
